Kung Fu Philosophy: Difference Between the Smart and the Wise

“聪明者,有难有易,取易而为,取利害而为。
智慧者, 有惊有险,炼励而悟,取道义而为。” - 吕凤林

“Smart people can quickly discern between the difficult and the easy, and choose to do the easy, and profitable.
Wise people choose life's shocks and dangers to train themselves to choose what is in harmony with the Dao [choose to do what is right]."  -Master Lu Feng-Lin

A wise person might not look like the most successful person because they are not overcome with avarice.  They leave avarice for "Smart People."  Smart people can gain many riches because they can manipulate others for their personal gain, but this is not wisdom.  There is a classic saying in Chinese that puts this idea simply:
“大智若愚”

"Great wisdom looks stupid"
