Tie Quan Zhang: Sanda Fighter Wins UFC Debut

Tie Quan Zhang just won his UFC debut by submitting Jason Reinhardt tonight in Sydney, Australia.  His record now stands at 13-1.  Known as the "Mongolian Wolf," Zhang spent his early life learning wrestling and Sanda.  This mixed background made Brazilian Jiujitsu easy to assimilate into his fighting repertoire.  He has 10 wins by submission and 3 by Knock Out, only losing one fight by decision.

Sanda is a great stand-up fighting style that incorporated kicks, punches, elbows, knees, and takedowns.  Since Sanda is such a flexible fighting style, a fighter with a Sanda background can easily add techniques from any fighting style into their arsenal.
